Janelle has been tending bees for ten years and is currently completing a Master Beekeeping course through Cornell University. Nestled in the Driftless region of southwest Wisconsin, Janelle currently works with land stewards to create habitat and home to honey bees. Each unique relationship allows a specific taste in the honey collected from various nectar flows throughout the season. Each hive is cared for to maintain health of its habitants first. The honey bees have first claim to the honey and pollen they gather, as the perfect food source full of the nutrients and vitamins they need. The bees are never treated with antibiotics and have an Integrated Pest Management protocol with the most natural methods possible.

In between bees and garden, Janelle is an avid writer, blending her experience and knowledge into fruitful revelations of life and the connections she makes with nature. Currently you can find her work on her Substack, January Journal.

Janelle currently lives in southwest Wisconsin with her husband and two children, leaning into that Little House in the Big Woods childhood fantasy. She goes through frequent bouts of baking, sewing, and historical Wikipedia rabbitholes.

Janelle Hillman is the voice and beekeeper behind January Farms and January Journal
